Michigan’s Zero Waste Market
LOCAL ZERO WASTE MARKET INTRODUCES NEW INITIATIVE TO MINIMIZE PLASTIC FOOTPRINT
Bee Joyful Shop Reinforces Commitment to Sustainability with Help of Zero Waste Boxes from TerraCycle®
KALAMAZOO, MI April 3, 2020
Bee Joyful Shop, Michigan's first zero-waste market, has teamed up with TerraCycle to help community members collect and recycle hard-to-recycle waste through the Zero Waste Box program.
Bee Joyful Shop started as an Etsy shop selling reusable food wraps with the goal of exposing more people to the idea of using sustainable, Earth-friendly materials to store food. Now, the brick and mortar market will offer customers products from individuals and small businesses with a mission to create a positive environmental impact.
Placed next to the shop’s FloWater refill station, the All-In-One Zero Waste Box provides Bee Joyful Shop customers with the opportunity to conveniently recycle any waste stream, including office supplies, home cleaning accessories, plastic and paper packaging, kitchen gear, coffee capsules and coffee bags, dining disposables and more.
This conventionally unrecyclable waste would have otherwise been landfilled, incinerated, or contributed to the pollution of marine habitats. The collected waste will now be recycled into a variety of new products such as park benches, bike racks, shipping pallets and recycling bins.
Bee Joyful Shop founder, Jessica Thompson is excited to help more members of the community adopt a zero-waste lifestyle.
“I have always told my five children to leave the world better than you found it; and that is exactly what I hope to do!” says Thompson.
